Fireplace and chimney service in Adams County and Broomfield

The north metro is mostly newer homes with gas fireplaces and metal chimneys. We inspect for free, photograph what we find and write the price first.

Broomfield is a city and county of its own, and most of it is new: the Census Bureau's 2024 survey puts its median home at 2002, with about 72 percent built in 1990 or later. Adams County's median is 1991 and Thornton's 1997. Westminster, which straddles Adams and Jefferson counties, is a little older, with a median of 1987. We also work in Northglenn, Federal Heights, Commerce City and Brighton.

Gas heats about 69 percent of homes in Adams County and 71 percent in Broomfield, so most fireplaces we service in the north metro are gas: direct-vent units with a glass front, gas inserts in older brick fireplaces and gas logs. Broomfield and the metro side of Adams County, west of Kiowa Creek, sit inside the state's winter no-burn area. Gas fireplaces are not restricted on those Action Days. Open wood fireplaces are.

Gas fireplace problems we see most

A pilot that won't stay lit, a fireplace that clicks but won't light, sooty glass and a burner that smells. Most of these come from a worn thermocouple or igniter, dust and debris in the burner, or a unit never set up for altitude. Gas appliances usually lose about 4 percent of their input for every 1,000 feet above 2,000 feet. Typical ranges: yearly service $150 to $350, pilot, thermocouple or igniter $100 to $350, valve or control board $300 to $1,000.

Chase covers and hail in the north metro

Factory-built fireplaces in newer homes vent through a metal chimney inside a framed chase. The sheet-metal chase cover on top takes the hail. Once it's dented, water pools, the cover rusts and stains the siding, and water can reach the fireplace. A new cover typically runs $300 to $700, and we photograph damage for your insurance adjuster. Denver sees about 135 freeze-thaw days a year, which also works on any gap in the seal.

FAQ

Adams County & Broomfield questions

Can I burn wood in Broomfield on a no-burn day?

Only in an approved device: an EPA Phase III stove or insert, an approved pellet stove or a masonry heater. An open fireplace may be used only if it's fitted with gas logs, a Phase III insert, an approved pellet insert or an electric device. Gas fireplaces are not restricted.

Do you convert wood fireplaces to gas in Westminster?

Yes. Converting a wood fireplace to gas typically runs $1,500 to $8,000, depending on whether you choose gas logs, typically $500 to $2,000, or a full gas insert, typically $2,000 to $8,000. We price it at the free inspection.

What does the free inspection include?

We check the fireplace and chimney from the roof and from inside, take photos and write down the price of anything that needs doing, including the cleaning, before any work starts.
