Fireplace and Chimney Service in Broomfield, Colorado

Broomfield is a city and county of its own, and more than half its homes were built since 2000. We inspect its fireplaces and chimneys for free.

Broomfield takes its name, historians think, from broomcorn, a grain crop once grown here whose stalks were made into brooms. The Denver–Boulder Turnpike opened through the area in 1952, and the City of Broomfield incorporated in 1961 in the southeast corner of Boulder County. On November 15, 2001, it became the City and County of Broomfield, Colorado's 64th county and the smallest by area, with one government serving as both. The 2020 census counted 74,112 residents.

Census figures (ACS 2024) put the median Broomfield home at 2002, with 55 percent built in 2000 or later and about 21 percent from before 1980. Gas heats 71 percent of homes. The older houses may have masonry wood-burning fireplaces. Homes built since 1993 fall under Colorado's rule that a new fireplace in the metro restriction area be gas, electric or a certified clean-burning unit, so most of them have gas or factory-built units in framed chases. We inspect both kinds, roof and inside, at no charge.

Broomfield and burn days

Broomfield is one of the counties the state health department names in its indoor-burning restriction area. On an air-quality Action Day, November through March, an open wood fireplace can't be used. The state's FAQ allows one on those days only if it is fitted with gas logs, an EPA Phase III insert, an approved pellet insert or an electric device.

Gas logs typically run $500 to $2,000, a gas insert $2,000 to $8,000 and a pellet stove install $1,600 to $4,100. Forecasts come out at 4 p.m. every day from October 31 to March 31, and the recorded hotline is 303-758-4848.

Chase covers and hail

On a factory-built chimney the top of the chase is a sheet-metal cover. The Front Range sits in Hail Alley, and in 2024 Colorado ranked fourth in State Farm's hail losses, with $521 million in claims at that one insurer, KDVR reported. A dented cover holds water, rusts and leaks into the chase. A new chase cover typically runs $300 to $700 and a cap $250 to $850. We photograph the damage so you can give it to your adjuster.

Gas fireplace service and selling a home

Broomfield sits at about 5,348 feet, so a gas fireplace loses roughly 13 percent of its input under the usual 4-percent-per-1,000-feet rule and has to be set up for altitude. A yearly service typically runs $150 to $350. If you are selling, Colorado requires a working carbon monoxide alarm within 15 feet of the entrance to every bedroom in a home with a fireplace or gas appliance.

FAQ

Broomfield chimney questions

Does Broomfield follow the Denver-metro no-burn days?

Yes. Broomfield is in the state's restricted area, so open wood fireplaces can't be used on Action Days, November through March. Gas fireplaces, EPA Phase III stoves and inserts, and approved pellet units are exempt.

My fireplace is gas. Does it still need a yearly check?

Yes. NFPA 211 calls for a yearly inspection of chimneys and vents, and a gas unit also needs its pilot, burner, glass seal and altitude setup checked. A yearly service typically runs $150 to $350.

How do I know if hail damaged my chase cover?

Look for dents, a sagging middle, or rust stains running down the siding below. The safest way is to let us look: the inspection is free and we photograph whatever we find.

Can you come on a Saturday?

No. We work Sunday through Friday in 3-hour windows, 8–11, 11–2 or 2–5, and we call to confirm before the visit.
